Building that was originally named Geologisch Laboratory manages the store and geological materials, such as fossils, rocks and minerals collected since 1850.

History Museum of Geology is closely related to the history of a geological survey and mines in the archipelago that began in the mid-17th century by scholars from Europe. After the industrial revolution in Europe occurred in the mid-18th century, they desperately need as a base for mining industry. The Dutch government realized the importance of mastery of the minerals in the archipelago. By the way, it is expected industrial growth in the Netherlands can be supported. So Dienst van het Mijnwezen established in 1850.

Furthermore, Dienst van het Mijnwezen institutional change its name so Dienst van den Mijnbouw in 1922, whose duties include the investigation of geology and mineral resources. Results of investigation of examples of rocks, minerals, fossils, reports and maps need a place for analyzing and storing, so that in 1928 Dienst van den Mijnbouw in Rembrandt Straat building Bandung. The building was originally named Geologisch Laboratories which later also called Geologisch Museum.

After Indonesia gained its independence in 1945, under the management of the Museum of Geology Mines and Geology Djawatan Center (PDTG/1945-1950). On September 19, 1945, the United States-led allied forces and the British a pretext by the Netherlands Indies Civil Administration (NICA) arrived in Indonesia (landed in Tanjungpriuk, Jakarta). Having an office in Rembrandt Straat PDTG abandoned by staff, the Dutch troops were in place to establish another office named Geologische Dienst. Everywhere a battle, since December 1945 until December 1949, during the four-year-stranded untreated PDTG office moved from one place to another. The Indonesian government tried to save documents so that the results of geological research must shift moving from Bandung - Tasikmalaya - Solo - Magelang and Yogyakarta, new in 1950 returned to Bandung Th.

In an effort to save these documents, on 7 May 1949, Head of Department of Mining and Geology CENTER, Arie Frederik Lasut, kidnapped and murdered the Dutch army and was killed as a nation in the Village Pakem Kusuma Yogyakarta. Management of Museum Geology which was under DJAWATAN CENTER MINE AND GEOLOGY (PDTG) renamed: Djawatan Mining of the Republic of Indonesia (1950-1952), Djawatan Geology (1952-1956), Central Geological Djawatan (1956-1957), Djawatan Geology (1957 - 1963), Directorate of Geology (1963-1978), Geological Research and Development Center (1978-2005), Central Geological Survey began the end of the year 2005 till now.

Along with the changing times, in 1999 the Museum of Geology was renovated with funding assistance from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), then reopened and inaugurated by the Vice President of Indonesia, Megawati Sukarnoputri, accompanied by Minister of Mines and Energy Mr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on August 23, 2000.
